LOVE & Creativity-Artisitic Couples in Fernie
This Valentine’s Day, we’re celebrating love in its most creative form - the kind that thrives in art, craftsmanship, and the shared passion for making something beautiful.
At Fernie Arts Co-op, we have several couples who have built lives together, supporting each other’s passion for art while creating their own distinct works.
Here are three inspiring love stories woven into the fabric of our community.
Harman & Bev Delyea: A Love of Art and Nature
Harman and Bev’s artistic journeys are deeply connected to the landscapes that surround them. Harman, a self-taught painter, brings the beauty of the Rocky Mountains to life through acrylic wildlife and landscape paintings. His work has been recognized on a national scale, earning spots in juried exhibitions and even selected as one of the three finalists for a feature on the back cover of Reader’s Digest.
Bev, on the other hand, finds her creative voice in stained glass mosaics, transforming light and color into breathtaking pieces. Inspired by nature, her work blends intricate glasswork with found objects like pebbles and beads, creating pieces that are both deeply personal and evocative.
Together, Harman and Bev encourage each other’s artistry - his paintings capturing the grand landscapes while she reimagines nature in shimmering mosaic form.
Michael & Anie Hepher: Printing & Stitching a Life Together
For Michael and Anie Hepher, creativity is not just a passion - it’s a way of life. Married in art and mischief, they have spent over a decade filling Fernie with color, print, and fiber arts.
Anie is a textile artist with a love for all things handmade, from whimsical crochet to upcycled clothing. Rooted in a long family tradition of makers, she believes in slow craft, sustainability, and the joy of making practical, yet playful, pieces.
Michael, an interdisciplinary artist, works with letterpress printing, oil painting, and wood engraving. His bold, graphic designs explore nature and community, revealing hidden stories in the world around us.
With Anie’s love for fiber and Michael’s mastery of print, their home and workspace are a testament to their shared artistic spirit - one that blends tradition, experimentation, and the joy of making things together.
Morgan & Carmen Dunnet: From Flowers to Flames
Morgan and Carmen’s story is one of transformation and creativity.
Carmen, originally a florist, spent years designing floral arrangements before transitioning into a new craft - candle making. With candle making she brings together her love of aesthetics and scent, crafting beautifully designed soy wax candles with unique fragrances.
Morgan, a painter, finds inspiration in the vibrant city landscapes and quiet small town nooks. His brushstrokes capture the essence of light and movement, much like Carmen’s candles do in their soft, flickering glow.
This Valentine’s Day, we celebrate the magic that happens when creativity and love come together. Whether it’s through painting, printmaking, stitching, or candle crafting, these couples remind us that art - like love - is best when shared.
Happy Valentine’s Day from all of us at the Fernie Arts Co-op!
