Sherry Chanin
Painter
Sherry Chanin has been a practicing artist and instructor for over 30 years focusing on watercolour as well as acrylic painting. Her work has been exhibited in Canada, Europe as well as the USA. Nature is often the source of inspiration with a focus on patterns and textures, and she frequently combines flat patterns designed background with realistic subject matter in the foreground. Other sources of inspiration includes Celtic knots, Japanese prints, Medieval manuscripts, calligraphy and Art Nouveau and Art Deco designs.
Sherry grew up in Calgary and received her early training at the Alberta College of Art and Design, before pursuing a BFA, BA in History and BED at the University of Calgary, followed by a MA from New York University. She has received several scholarships to study at the Banff Center of Fine Arts in Alberta , as well as Venice, Italy and the Instituto Allende in San Miguel, Mexico. She currently resides in the Crowsnest Pass where she continues to teach workshops and paint.
