Art is at the core of Marla’s being. Since childhood, she’s been creative and imaginative. First attracted to the romance of the images portrayed by western artists. Her life of horses, rodeos, cattle drives and beautiful landscapes became realistic drawings. Exploring the use of acrylics and watercolours soon followed. Early creations and perception opened a whole new world.
Moving to Fernie in 1988, her life interests changed in the spectacular Rocky Mountains, and artistic shifts occurred. Now a more mature artist , she finds herself integrating techniques in an eclectic way. Letting her intuition drive the approaches used, giving each painting individuality. Most of her recent work is acrylic on canvas, morphing a combination of real images into whimsical landscapes. The realism connects the familiar with the emotions of the abstract, ushering in experiences unique to each onlooker.
